She’s just a girl
Dancing barefoot, outside, alone, under the stars
She’s just a girl who has known intense trauma and abuse in her life
She’s known those she loved literally try to kill her,
or move out while she was at work, or cheat after becoming
jealous and bitter as she tried to make life better for both of them.
She’s just a girl who has known the agony of conceiving a child who would not live,
and the grief of surviving the deaths of both a best friend and a brother.
She’s just girl with more scars on her body than most, either from injury or surgeries.
She’s seen the worst that life can offer.
Still, she’s just a girl who works constantly to make life better for animals.
She dreams of establishing a local healthy food bank because there are just too many hungry people.
She’s just a girl who in spite of the way life has treated her still believes most people are good
and life is worth living.
There are days when she speaks to more dead people than living ones and
she counts angels and animals among her best friends.
To you she might seem unique, different or weird. She might even seem somehow selfless or heroic.
But to her
She’s just a girl
Dancing barefoot, outside, alone, under the stars.
